Queensland flooding

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this yet, but Australia is having a little bit of an argument with Mother Nature at the moment, and it seems that Mother Nature is winning. We are having some pretty devastating floods happening up in Queensland, moving down into New South Wales, with an estimated 40,000 home in Brisbane which will be hit by the floods. This does not even include homes which have been or will need to be evacuated. It. Is. Devastating.

So far we have lost 10 lives to the floods, with a further 67 people officially listed as missing. While this number might not be as great as the tragedies which have struck places such as Haiti, in my opinion it is 12 too many people dead, and 67 people too many missing.

These people have lost lives, family members, pets (which for me would be totally devastating, I just want to go home and scoop up my cat and hug him for all he’s worth), their homes and precious memories. And the worst has not happened, with the Brisbane river expected to swell even further and create mass havoc later this afternoon, early tomorrow morning. People in Queensland need yours, mine, our help.

Please, if you can find it in yourself to do so, donate to the Queensland Government’s Flood Relief Appeal, every single cent will help them. If you would prefer, then please consider Red Cross, who will also take donations. Or if like me, you have a huge soft spot for animals and just want to cry over the fate of these poor defenceless creatures, please donate to the RSPCA.

If you would like any further information about the floods, please visit Ninemsn (I have been glued there all day, with tears rolling down my face – really not the best look for work.)

While I am talking of disasters, please also spare a thought and a prayer for those caught up in bushfires in Western Australia at the moment. Some miserable little bastard purposely lit these fires, and I hope if they find him, they make him rot in hell.

Yes, it really is so heartbreaking. I’ve continued to work on my quilt today for the auction and it helps to keep busy and focus on something small I can do when I feel so helpless. I live in South Australia too, so its hard to help being so far away.
